Working for our Debut
Sara and I are sweating.
This new album keeps us on our toes – we’re constantly dealing with things we don’t really know how to do. But we want to get it right: it’s our debut.
“We’ll go to this CD pressing plant,” Sara says.
“They’re beginner-friendly.”
Very reassuring.
I try to explain to Ilia what’s important for us in the mastering.
I put it a bit poetically, apologize, and try again.
Ilia just nods. He must have telepathic skills – excellent qualifications for a sound engineer. Very reassuring.
And he keeps mastering.
Meanwhile, Sara is working on the artwork. Since I can’t help there, she goes to her graphic designer friend, who happens to live on a farm, to do the final touches.
And then, she told me, it got a bit late – so I had to help her quickly in the stable and milk the goat.
“Really? And you could do it?”
“At first not, but then it worked.”
I’m deeply impressed – I’ve never had the chance to milk a goat.
“And by the way,” she says, “that guy asked why there are angels flying around on our cover.”
“Angels,” I reply, “rarely give us humans any explanation for their appearance. They’re already happy enough if someone notices them.”
“Fine,” Sara says, “then check whether there are still spelling mistakes in the proof.”
Oh yes. Spelling mistakes appear without explanation too. And nobody is really surprised.
