Verborgener Grund

Verborgener Grund

The project Verborgener Grund brings together vocalist Natalie Peters and pianist Luca Manzo in an intimate musical exploration of the deepest and most elusive dimensions of human existence. Fascinated by the evocative atmosphere of late-nineteenth-century Viennese Lied, the two artists retrace the Romantic quest for mystery and transcendence, guided by that untranslatable longing known in German as Sehnsucht.

The musical fabric unfolds as a continuous dialogue, in which Lieder by Hugo Wolf, Alma Mahler, Alexander von Zemlinsky, Hanns Eisler, and Paul Dessau, merge organically with sonic developments born in the moment.

The aim is to draw out from each score its Verborgener Grund, its intimate, hidden essence, and give it a new voice through the sensibility of the present. In this way, true “resonant mirrors” come to life: spaces in which the experience of today is reflected in the Romantic matrix and, through refraction, transformed into unexpected connections.

A space in between worlds thus emerges dreamlike and fluid, where past and present converge, and the power of inner images finally becomes tangible.
