Natalie Peters: Voice
Sofia Borges: Percussion, Electronics
Klaus Janek: Acoustic and Processed Double Bass
sOnic alchemy stands for real-time composition that brings together live electronics, double bass, percussion, and field recordings. The ensemble approaches sound as a living material. Their work with sound is carefully shaped while retaining a fluid, constantly transforming quality. It is an alchemy of resonance: a process of exploration, transformation, and continual becoming. Every element is treated as an equal component, entering into dialogue and unfolding organically through interaction.
Joining the ensemble is vocalist Natalie Peters, whose voice becomes a further layer within this fluid sonic landscape. Her vocal practice frees the voice from familiar modes of expression, opening up unconventional musical territories while remaining in constant resonance with the instruments and electronic processing.
Through years of close collaboration, sOnic alchemy has developed and refined its sonic language, its practice of listening, and its artistic dialogue. The music unfolds through intense real-time compositions. Field recordings, often captured in specific places and environments, anchor each performance in a sense of place and memory, while the double bass and live electronics respond to, transform, and extend these sonic materials. Natalie Peters’ voice moves through this texture, at times emerging as a clear presence and at others dissolving into the surrounding sound.
The result is a performance that resists easy categorization: neither concert nor sound installation, neither fully composed nor purely improvised, but something that emerges in the tension between these poles. It reflects sOnic alchemy’s ongoing interest in the transparency of process.
This collaboration continues sOnic alchemy’s practice of inviting guest artists into its creative process, exploring how the ensemble’s sonic language evolves and expands through dialogue with new voices and forms of expression.
